Describing the Union budget as disappointing and directionless,Chief Minister Mayawati has said the Congress-led UPA government lacks the will tackle the menace of black money in the economy.

“Had the resolve of the UPA government been firm and clear then instead of signing treaties and framing legislation, the Center would have ensured strict compliance with the existing laws to unearth black money,” she said.

The Union Finance Minister may be pleased about the growth rate, but it is not going to curb inflation, she said. “The common people feel cheated as the minister has only expressed concern over inflation, which is not going to give them any relief.”

The budget, she said, will not help address poverty, inflation and regional imbalance and will only widen economic disparities. No concrete action plan has been announced for tackling unemployment.

Accusing the Center of ignoring the interest of weavers, she said: “UP is home to a huge population of weavers, but a mere Rs 3,000 crore has been provided in the budget. It has disappointed the weaver community,as there is no proposal in the budget for their welfare.”
