The Chief Electoral Office in Uttar Pradesh is all set to introduce a new software to check the duplication of voters names in electoral rolls. The software will identify the voters whose names are listed in electoral rolls in more than one constituency.
The UP Development Systems Corporation Limited (UPDESCO) has developed this software and the UP electoral office has started its trial run on the database of electoral lists. Once the software is made error-free,it may be used to revise the electoral lists next year. This software will identify people whose names appear more than once in electoral lists and serve them notice asking them to choose voter list of the place in which they want to retain their name, said Umesh Sinha,CEO,UP. As per the choice indicated by voters, their names will be retained in that particular electoral list and their names will be deleted from other lists.
According to officials, this software will help in identification of those persons who have either relocated, migrated or transferred to other places but their names exists in lists of both the places.
The software will catch the duplication by matching a voters name, fathers name, date of birth and other particulars. During the trial run, electoral officials have found several cases of duplication.
Currently, the Chief Electoral Office revises the electoral lists every year through door-to-door survey. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) include new names in the voter list and delete the names of those people who have migrated permanently or have died. They also verify the actual place where a person lives by inquiring about their relatives and neighbours.
After a recent survey conducted between May and September, the electoral office has deleted 45.32 lakh names from voters lists across the state. Most of the duplicate names from the voters lists have been deleted from Lucknow (4.6 lakh). The survey also revealed that the number of duplicate names deleted from Varanasi is 1.32 lakh,1.2 lakh in Aligarh,1.42 lakh in Muzaffarnagar,1.14 lakh in Agra,1.08 lakh in Moradabad and 2.20 lakh in Kanpur Nagar.
