Murder convict jumps from train,dies
ALLAHABAD: A 35-year-old murder accused died after he jumped from a train late Sunday. The incident came to light Monday morning when a railway gangman noticed the body lying near the tracks under Bara police station area of the district. A gangman informed us about a body,with handcuffs,lying near the tracks. Railway police was informed and an inquest was conducted, said Station Officer (Bara),Shailesh Rai. Railway police said Bhola Ram,who lived in Rajkot (Gujarat),had escaped after killing his wife Kalawati on August 2. He was arrested by the local police from his native place in Bhojpur district of Bihar. The Rajkot police was taking Bhola Ram to Gujarat in Ganga-Tapti Express. Around 9.30 pm Sunday,Bhola broke the window pane of the toilet and jumped. He died on the spot, said Station Officer (Manikpur GRP),Ram Kumar Gupta.
Riots: Cleric suggests 5 names for panel
LUCKNOW: Bareilly cleric,Tauqeer Raza Khan,Monday suggested CM Akhilesh Yadav five names for a panel to probe the communal riots during the present SP regime. The names include journalist Sheetla Singh,Justice (retd) Naseemuddin,former State Minorities Commission chairman S M A Kazmi,Vibhuti Narain Rai,a former IPS officer,and social worker Sadhna Dubey. Raza did not include himself in the proposed probe panel.
LU to hold three-day literary fest
LUCKNOW: Lucknow University will organise a three-day mini literary and cultural fest from September 5 to 7,university spokesperson Prof N K Pandey informed. The decision was taken in a meeting of LUs Sanskritiki (cultural activities board) Monday. ENS
