After facing embarrassment following withdrawal of candidature by its nominees in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections, the state BJP unit has formed a four-member panel to probe the issue.
“State BJP chief Laxmikant Bajpai has appointed former state presidents Surya Pratap Shahi, Ramapati Ram Tripathi, Shiv Pratap Shukla and Satish Mahana as inquiry officers,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.

Shahi and Tripathi will probe the matter related to Agra and Banda seats. Also, party state vice-president Shiv Pratap Shukla will inquire about Meerut while MLA Satish Mahana will probe the matter of Lucknow-Unnao seat.
He said the committee is expected to submit its report by March 6.
BJP had fielded Anirudh Singh Chandel from Lucknow-Unnao local bodies constituency and Anand Tripathi on Banda-Hamirpur seat. It had also fielded Virendra Yadav and T P Singh from Meerut and Agra MLC seats, respectively. Virendra, who had joined BJP recently from Samajwadi Party, returned to his parent party even after filing nomination as BJP candidate. TP Singh did not even file the nomination after taking the party ticket.
Chandel, had withdrawn his nomination on February 18. This led to unopposed election of Samajwadi Party’s Sunil Singh Sajan, who is considered close to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
The party later expelled Chandel and Anand Tripathi on charges of indiscipline.
