Woman’s half-burnt body found near canal, man held for sister-in-law’s murder

“When she did not return home late in the evening on January 21, I enquired with Ashish about her, but he said he had dropped off Priyanka near their house the same afternoon. We continued our search besides lodging the FIR. We were told that someone had seen my daughter with Ashish and his friends Shubham and Deepak near Sardhana town in Meerut on January 21. I informed the police immediately,” said Rishipal.

“We have taken Ashish into custody and interrogated him. He confessed to killing Priyanka and then burning her body near the Sardhana canal. We recovered the half-burnt body and arrested the main accused on Friday evening. His associates are absconding and we are conducting raids to nab them,” said Anand Dev Mishra, SHO of the Budhana police station.

The station house officer said that Ashish told the police that he had developed a relationship with Priyanka despite being married to her elder sister for four years. Ashish further told the police that Priyanka was putting pressure on him to live with her, which prompted him plot the crime and kill her along with the help of his two friends, who are residents of Sardhana town.
