The Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in Amethi for allegedly issuing a social media threat to Bhim Army leader Chandra Shekhar Aazad who was attacked by unidentified men in Saharanpur Wednesday, officials said. The police later said that the arrested, Vimlesh Singh, so far was not connected to the attack on the Dalit leader. Amethi police said in a statement that a case was lodged in connection with the death threat posted from a Facebook page called ‘Kshatriya of Amethi’ that claimed that Chandra Shekhar Aazad would be killed “by Thakurs of Amethi at a road crossing in broad daylight”. “During the probe, it came out that the post was written by a person named Vimlesh Singh on June 29. During questioning, it could not be established that the man had any link with Wednesday’s attack on the Bhim Army president in Saharanpur,” said the Amethi police. A senior police officer said that Vimlesh was a driver by profession and made the remarks “after feeling outraged at Azad’s earlier comments”. The officials at the Gauriganj police station registered a case for criminal intimidation and section 66 of the IT Act. Gauriganj Station House Officer Akhand Dev Mishra said that a case was registered and the man was sent to judicial custody “because of a threat to the law and order situation”. “The post started going viral on Thursday, but we don’t know when it was posted. We are collecting evidence and finding out more,” Mishra said. On Wednesday, a bullet grazed Aazad’s abdomen in Deoband, and he was rushed to a hospital. He was later transferred to Saharanpur civil hospital for further treatment, and his condition is stable. The car used by Aazad’s attackers was seized from Miragpur village in Saharanpur late Wednesday night.
