Objections against employing child actors in their serial Krishna notwithstanding, the Sagars feel it is important to show in detail the formative years of Mira, the 15th century Rajput princess, who transcended all boundaries of devotion.

“Mira’s name is synonymous to bhajan, but few know about her childhood influences,” says Moti Sagar, producer of the serial on NDTVimagine, who declined comment on the furore over kids working in serials.

“The princess was fond of her grandfather Rana Doodha Singh, who was a staunch devotee of Lord Krishna and kept her by his side after her mother’s death. Her contemporary Sant Raidas was another source of inspiration. To bring to the fore the essence of her poetry, one must delve into her years in her father’s house and all that can only be portrayed through a child artiste,” he continues.

He takes time to recall the name of the girl who plays the young Mira. “Actually,we all call her Mira, but her name is Aashika Bhatia,” says Sagar, not wanting to say anything about those who wanted little Krishna in his serial to grow up so that an adult actor could relieve the minor.

“Music is more important in this production than in any other because of the protagonist’s poet profile. Most of her poetry happened after marriage so the songs in the opening episodes are either written and composed by our team or taken from traditional folk,” says Sagar, whose son Amrit Sagar is the series director, shooting in Jaisalmer.
