Kickboxing: UP players win medals

According to Prashant Pandey,general secretary of the state Amateur Kickboxing Association,UP bagged a total of 18 medals which included 4 golds,7 silvers and 7 bronze to occupy the sixth spot in the national kickboxing championships held at Kolkata,recently.

The medal winners from UP include: Gold: Poonam Vishnoi,Pooja Tomar,M Devi,Bindu; Silver: Hemant Kumar,Udit Kumar,Sonu Pal,Roma Nagar,Sher Singh,Khushboo,Shailendra Singh; Bronze: M Rashid,Saurabh,Aryan Singh,Siddharth Prasad,Chanchal,Arti,Sonu.

Laxman awards
The sports department (UP) has extended the date of receiving of applications for the Laxman and Rani Laxmi Bai awards for 2009-2010 till August 21. Talking to The Indian Express,principal secretary sports (UP) Lalit Varma informed,“Several sportspersons said that they had not been able to submit the applications along with the necessary documents by August 12,so now the deadline has been extended till August 21.”

The Sports Directorate has invited applications on prescribed format for the highest state sports awards— Laxman and Rani Laxmi Bai awards for the year 2009-10. The applications have been invited in 29 sports. The duly completed forms along with two photographs,attested photocopies of required sports certificates and letters from the respective sports associations etc should be submitted at the Sports Directorate. Interested candidates should contact the Sports Directorate for details.
