In a tweet, Samajawadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said the whole of Uttar Pradesh is facing injustices at the hands of the BJP government. “The arrogance of power has burnt alive a family. Not just Kanpur Dehat, or Kanpur Nagar, the whole of UP is facing injustices of the BJP government,” he said.

The Samajwadi Party wrote on its official Twitter handle, “The deceased person’s is naming officials and saying that they are responsible. When will you send these officials to jail after booking them under sections for murder, conspiracy to murder, intimidation? In a tweet, Priyanka Gandhi said, “No amount of condemnation is enough for the heart-wrenching incident in Kanpur.” “We all have to raise our voice against this inhumanity. The victim’s family should get justice and strict action be taken against the culprits,” she said in a tweet.

Congress state president Brijlal Khabri also condemned the incident, saying, “The BJP says something and does something. They say that bulldozer action will not be taken against the poor, but what has happened in Kanpur reveals their true character.”

Khabri also claimed that a Congress delegation, including himself and party leaders Nakul Dubey and Naseemuddin Siddiqui, were stopped from visiting the victim’s family.

“I don’t know why they stopped us. They seem to be hiding their failures,” he added.

What CM said on demolition last year

On April 2022, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “If a poor person builds a house on government land by encroachment, then the administration will not remove it till a safe house is provided to them. There are arrangements for this… And if it is not in a reserved category, then it will not be demolished, but will be given on a lease at the same place.”
