Rescue operation at Kannauj railway station concludes as 28 trapped workers pulled out safely
On Saturday afternoon, a portion of an under-construction structure at the Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj station in Uttar Pradesh came crumbling down.

The rescue operation, following a building collapse at the Kannauj railway station, came to an end on Sunday morning with the rescuers safely pulling out 28 workers after a night-long hustle, news agency PTI reported.
On Saturday afternoon, a portion of an under-construction structure at the Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj station in Uttar Pradesh came crumbling down, trapping around two dozen workers under the rubble.
No casualties were reported and all the people rescued were admitted to a hospital, the officials told PTI.
The rescue teams, comprising personnel from the national and state disaster response force and the railways, toiled through the cold winter night to remove the debris and pull out the trapped workers safely.
District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukl, who visited the site on Sunday, expressed relief that no lives were lost in the accident.
A CCTV footage from the site showed the roof collapsed while a labourer was trying to fix the shuttering (a temporary structure used to support concrete). The clip suggested that a beam carried by the worker had hit the shuttering, resulting in its slip and ultimate collapse.
A three-member high-level committee to investigate the incident, said Pankaj Kumar Singh, Chief Public Relation Officer (North Eastern Railway).
The inquiry team will comprise Chief Engineer (Planning & Design), the Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Izzatnagar) and the Chief Security Commissioner (Railway Protection Force). “It will be part of the investigation to check under which plan the construction at the railway station was going on and also how the incident occurred,” said Singh.
