Couple found dead in Rampur

LUCKNOW: The bodies of a couple,Ram Autar and wife Shyamdei,were recovered from a plot near Mahmoodpur village in Rampur district on Saturday night,said police today. Autar’s brother,Harpal Singh,alleged that one Mohanlal,an alleged exorcist,lured his brother by promising to double his money,police said. On Friday last,Mohanlal called Autar and his wife with Rs 50,000 and the couple went missing after that,Harpal told police.

Gangster killed in encounter

Azamgarh: A gangster allegedly operating with MLA Mukhtar Ansari was killed in an encounter with the police near Kartalpur bypass,said police. Kali Pasi,who carried a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his head,was allegedly involved in 18 criminal cases. He was shot dead when he attempted to break a police barrier and opened fire in an attempt to flee after being intercepted,SP Bhagwan Swaroop said. Kali worked as a shooter for the gang and was wanted for the murder of a policeman.

Four Health officials suspended

Lucknow: Four health officials,including the Chief Medical Superintendent of Gonda Women Hospital,were suspended on Sunday following charges that they were involved in selling medicine meant for free distribution in the open market. “On the directive of Chief Minister Mayawati,CMS of the district women hospital,Saroj Bala,senior medical officer Nitin Gupta and two pharmacists,have been placed under suspension and attached with the health directorate,” a government spokesman said. Departmental proceedings have been initiated and the Officiating Director of Balrampur Hospital,Shobhnath,has been nominated to conduct an inquiry.

BJP organisational polls by June: Shahi

GORAKHPUR: State BJP chief Surya Pratap Shahi said on Sunday that organisational elections for the party’s state unit would be completed by June end. “The BJP will broaden its base in view of the 2012 Assembly elections,” said Shahi. ens/pti
