In a case of suspected honour killing,a 19-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her family members on September 18,a day after the body of her 26-year-old boyfriend was found in a field. The incident was reported from Dhoomanganj police station area of the city.
The girls brother was Friday detained for questioning.
Police said Nazim,Arifs son,of Damupur village in Dhoomanganj, did not return from work September 14. He used to do odd jobs at construction sites. His family lodged a missing complaint the next day.
September 17,Nazims body was found with his neck slit in a field.
On the basis of Arifs complaint, the police registered a case of murder.
The complainant told the police that Nazim and Ayesha, daughter of Ibrahim, who lived in the same village, were close to each other for the past few months. But Ayeshas brother,Imran, and two of her maternal cousins Usman and Sufiyan would often threaten Nazim, asking him to stay away from the girl.
Imran,Usman and Suifyan were named in the case registered in connection with Nazims murder, said an official. The three are absconding.
The police had picked Ayeshas father for questioning Wednesday evening. He was allowed to go the next day. Thursday, the police were informed that Ayesha had committed suicide by hanging herself early Thursday.
However, police noticed presence of burn marks on the girls body and also could also smell kerosene oil at the spot, said Superintendent of Police (City),Shailesh Yadav.
Yadav said post-mortem revealed that the burn injuries on Ayeshas body were caused after her death. Also, the ligature marks were all around the neck, which is not the case when a person dies by hanging. Her spinal cord was also broken.
