HC reserves order on

The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday reserved judgment in connection with a PIL alleging that IAS officer Himanshu Kumar was transferred as Commissioner (Allahabad Division) within 24 hours of his posting

The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday reserved judgment in connection with a PIL alleging that IAS officer Himanshu Kumar was transferred as Commissioner (Allahabad Division) within 24 hours of his posting because he took action against silica sand mafia operating in Shankergarh area here.

The PIL had also prayed for an investigation by an independent agency into the alleged illegal operations, which were apparently going on due to a nexus with influential people in the government.

The court will pronounce the judgment on June 21.

The judgment was reserved by the bench after the Secretary (Appointment)

submitted a report on the transfer of Kumar and the District Magistrate of Allahabad filed his affidavit on the action taken against alleged illegal operations in Shankergarh.

On June 14,another division bench of the Allahabad High Court, while hearing the PIL,had sought original records from the Secretary (Appointment) on Kumar’s sudden transfer.

The bench had also directed the District Magistrate (Allahabad) to take action against the sand mafia, lest it reflects poorly on the district authorities.
