According to the police, at around 2.30 am on Friday, they spotted a youth standing with a suitcase at the Sangam zone near Yamunapati. The police team, which was conducting a routine check in the area, suspected some foul play. Kumar told the police that he had come from Hisar for a holy bath. When the police asked him to open his bag, he allegedly tried to run away. The police caught Kumar and opened his bag to find the body inside.
The police took Kumar into custody and during interrogation, he allegedly revealed that his mother worked at a private firm in Hisar. The police said that while Kumar hails from Gopalganj in Bihar, for the last few years, he had been staying with his mother at a rented accommodation in Hisar.
On December 13, he allegedly strangled his mother at their house in a fit of anger after she refused to give him money. The police said Kumar revealed that he stuffed her body in a suitcase and took a train to Ghaziabad. He then caught another train and reached Prayagraj on Thursday night. Kumar allegedly hired a private taxi and reached the Yamunapati area. As the area was crowded, he reportedly got scared and decided to wait till people left the place, the police said.
Before he could open the bag and dispose of the body, the police spotted him.
The police have recovered a cellphone and Kumar’s Aadhaar card. The police have also alerted their counterparts in Hisar and asked them to verify Kumar’s information.
