Governor seeks CM Akhilesh Yadav’s clarification on 23 Lokayukta reports

Special report was submitted to Governor on August 2 last year and Governor had sought explanation on August 12.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik Monday shot off a fresh letter to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav seeking clarification on Lokayukta’s special reports in 23 cases on complaints of corruption, land grab and misappropriation of funds against several former ministers and government officials.

The Governor has asked CM and Chief Secretary to submit explanatory memorandum on the special reports which are pending with the government following which they could be tabled in the state legislature.

In his letter, Naik reminded Akhilesh that a total of 43 special reports have been submitted by Lokayukta to the Governor from March 15, 2012 (the day SP government took charge) to March 2015 but CM and Chief Secretary have given explanatory memorandum only on 20 reports, out of which only one was tabled in Assembly.

Governor has also attached copy of all the special reports and their status. Out of these reports, some of the significant ones on which state government was yet to submit explanation include one against former sports minister of state and BSP leader Ayodhya Prasad Pal who is accused of land grab. The report was submitted by Lokayukta on September 12 last year and Governor had sought explanation eight days later.

Another report on complaint of corruption against former Animal Husbandary minister Awadh Pal Singh Yadav is also pending. The special report was submitted to the Governor on August 2 last year and Governor had sought explanation on August 12.

The list also includes complaint made by state government against former ministers Naseemuddin Siddiqui and Babu Singh Kushwaha, 12 former MLAs, five general managers of Rajkiya Nirman Nigam, former director of mining department, 43 project directors, 35 accountants and assistant accountants as well as 60 firms supplying sand stones. The complaint was filed in 2012 after SP government came to power alleging corruption in the construction of park and other monuments as well as in supply of sand stones for the construction in Lucknow as well as NOIDA.
