Gangsters Act: Police seize properties of Yaqub Qureshi
Qureshi's two sons Imran and Firoz, who were also arrested under the Gangsters Act, are out on bail. The family have been told to vacate their parental house in Meerut's Sarai Behleem locality, police sources.

Meerut police on Thursday launched a multi-phase week-long operation to confiscate properties and impound vehicles of two-time former BSP MLA Haji Yaqub Qureshi, who is currently lodged at Sonbhadra jail, under the Gangsters and the Anti-social Activities (Prevention) Acts, said police sources.
A PTI report stated that the district administration has attached two plots worth Rs 9 crore of Qureshi at Shakarpur village. “Two plots of lands of Yaqub Qureshi which have been attached today are in the name of his wife Sanjeeda Begum. The properties were bought using the money earned through criminal activities,” PTI quoted Circle Officer (CO) Kithore Rupali Roy, as saying.
The former BSP MLA from Meerut has properties spread across 26 places in the district and premium luxury vehicles like Mercedes, Range Rover, Jaguar and Audi — the collective worth of which is estimated to Rs Rs 31.77 crore — that would be seized in the first phase of the operation, said police sources.
Qureshi’s two sons Imran and Firoz, who were also arrested under the Gangsters Act, are out on bail. The family have been told to vacate their parental house in Meerut’s Sarai Behleem locality, police sources.
Senior Superintendent of Police Rohit Singh Sajwan said, “We have formed three police teams to carry out the exercise and Deputy SP Kithore Rupali Roy Chaudhary will lead the operation. Kharkhauda, Mundali and Kotwali police stations have formed three teams to execute the operation. Besides, we have completed all legal formalities beforehand.”
“The properties have been identified. We have made an elaborate plan to confiscate the properties within the purview of the law. We have initiated the process this (Thursday) afternoon and the exercise will be intensified from tomorrow,” Roy Chaudhary said.
“As per an estimate, Qureshi owns cash and properties worth over Rs 100 crore spread across Meerut, Ghaziabad and Noida. We have launched the first phase, while the remaining properties are being identified and will be seized in the second phase, which is not far away,” said the SSP.
According to police sources, Meerut District Magistrate Deepak Meena has given his consent to the police authorities to confiscate Qureshi’s identified properties.
Qureshi, his wife, and their two sons and three aides were booked under the Gangsters Act by Meerut police on November 15 last year. —With PTI inputs
