Four sugar mill officials arrested for delay in cane crushing

The Chandpur sugar mills was earlier owned by the public sector,UP State Sugar Corporation Ltd,and in last September it became a private mill after it was acquired by Wave Industries.

An official of the Cane department said the officers have been arrested for flouting the conditions of the cane crushing license,issued every year by the Cane commissioner to all sugar mills under the “UP Sugarcane Purchase and Control Order,1953”. The Cane commissioner ahead of the cane crushing season also issues cane reservation order for sugar mills notifying the area from where the cane will be supplied to sugar mills. After the issue of cane reservation order,the sugar mills submit cane crushing schedule to the Cane commissioner.

The official said as per the provisions under Section 18 (B) of the UP Sugarcane Purchase and Control Order,1953,the sugar mills are bound to adhere to the cane crushing schedule. The officials of the Chandpur mill have been arrested for not commencing the cane crushing as per the schedule submitted by them to the Cane commissioner.

An official release said the government on November 12 had issued a directive that all sugar mills should commence crushing by November 15 and continue the crushing till the cane stock lasts. The release said the penal action against the Chandpur mills officials has been taken for delay in commencement of the cane crushing.
