Feeding stray dogs or any other animal can now invite penalties if you are not careful. As per a fresh notification being enforced by the Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC), littering and poor sanitation will not be tolerated anymore and offenders will be penalised. The penalty amount can go up to Rs 1,000, depending on the offence.

Spitting in public places in Varanasi will now cost violators Rs 250 as the city enforces the stricter sanitation measures under the Uttar Pradesh Solid Waste Management and Sanitation Rules, 2021. The Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) has rolled out these rules to promote better hygiene and civic discipline, officials said.

According to VMC Public Relations Officer Sandeep Srivastava, the new regulations have officially come into effect across the city, reported news agency PTI. People found spitting or throwing waste from vehicles will face a penalty of Rs 1,000.
