The state Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) registered a case on Wednesday in the matter of four passports obtained from the Regional Passport Office against fake documents in 2005.
The issuance of passports came to light during the investigation into the passport issued to alleged Pakistani spy Mohammed Sayeed Ali,who was recently arrested in Delhi.
None of the four persons has been found and the addresses have turned out to be fake. While investigating Alis case,the police found fake police verification reports in 24 passports. In 20 cases,the addresses are genuine,but the persons holding the passports were not living there and the police are still trying to locate them.
The four passports,in which the addresses were fake,were issued in the name of Rahees Ahmed of Bazar Khala,Mohammad Bahauddin of Wazirganj,Mohammad Chand Babu and Ugrah Singh of Qaiserbagh.
The ADG (Law and Order) Brij Lal said the investigation involves the staff of Regional Passport Office (RPO),Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) and the local police,besides the named accused. The ATS will also probe if the employees of the Lucknow District Supply Office and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) were involved in issuing fake ration cards and driving licences to these persons. The case was registered under various sections of the IPC and the Passport Act.
The ATS officials said more cases will be registered as the RPO staff,LIU and the local police and the touts involved are identified in course of investigation.
