Following reports of anomalies in the NREGS implementation in Pakra Bazaar village of Lucknow’s Mall block,Chief Development Officer (Lucknow) Kaushal Raj Sharma has chargesheeted the Gram Rozgar Sewak and the panchayat secretary of the village and ordered departmental action against them.

Sharma has not only ordered the recovery of money from the bank accounts of fake beneficiaries, but also from the pradhan,Rajkumari, and the panchayat secretary.

Sharma said the block development officer (BDO) and three assistant development officers had conducted an open meeting in the village on Monday. It was found that Rajkumari’s husband Ram Khilawan had siphoned money by becoming the rozgar mate — a person who certifies the completion of a project under the NREGS and the number of people who have worked for it — which is illegal. A recovery of Rs 7,400 was also made from Rajkumari.

Meanwhile,it was also found that a number of people were given money under the NREGS though they had not worked on the sites. “We have written to the bank to assist us with the recovery,” said Sharma.

He added the BDO has been asked to further probe the anomalies under the NREGS in neighbouring villages since some were being taken care of by the same panchayat secretary. “We will be out with the final report soon,” said Sharma.
