Eye on Lok Sabha polls,cabinet clears 20 development projects

Formation of six new tehsils in various districts were also approved during the meet.

With the upcoming Lok Sabha election in mind,the state government,in a cabinet meet today,cleared about 20 proposals meant to give the states infrastructual development a major boost.

While proposals for new projects were floated,among the existing ones norms for which were modified to make them currently viable included the long-pending Centenary hospital in Lucknow,which failed to operate on the robin hood and financially independent model. The hospital,the state has decided,will now run as an extension of King George Medical University,and provide low-cost medical facilities.

This would also help us in getting additional 100 post-graduate seats from Medical Council of India in the future said Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav after the meeting.

The cabinet also cleared the proposal,with amendments,inviting bids for development of International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow (on Public Private Partnership model),tenders for which were floated in the past but investors had not shown any interest.

The ambitious 22.80-km long Agra inner ring road will now be built in three phases (10.90 km,8.10 km and 3.80 km,respectively) using state funds,the cabinet has decided,as its earlier decision to float fresh tenders after scrapping the deal between Jaypee Group and the erstwhile Mayawati government had failed to attract developers who had termed the project non-viable. Agra Development Authority and Public Works Department will act as nodal agencies for the project,estimated cost of which is around Rs 320 crore and includes a bridge on Yamuna and a railway over-bridge.

Also approved were proposals for the installation of underground electricity cables in Saifai (Etawah),Tirwa (Kannauj) and Azamgarh city; widening of roads in selected stretch on NH-25 (between Lucknow-Agra),NH 234 (Kannauj) and NH-44 (Lalitpur); widening and beautification of Lohia Path in Lucknow; and handing over of around 107 square meter of Rajbhawan land to PWD free of cost,among others.

To meet the power shortage,the cabinet approved purchase of power from three companies Ms KSK Mahanadi Power Company Ltd (1000 mw),Ms PTC India Pvt Ltd (361 mw) and Ms Krishnapatnam Private Company Ltd (800 mw) and will soon issue Letter of Intent to each with stated provisions to supply power for 25 years beginning October 2016.
