A 51-year-old former municipal councillor in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district was killed by four assailants who stormed into his house and slit his throat Saturday afternoon, said the police.
The killers allegedly beat him up and thrashed his minor daughter as she tried to intervene, the police added.
The victim’s wife told the police that two of the killers had been putting pressure on her husband to withdraw a complaint alleging molestation of their two minor daughters, based on which the police had registered a First Information Report (FIR). She said her husband had refused to agree to their demand and it led to the murder.
According to the murder FIR lodged at the local police station, the wife said she had gone to a school where she works, and her younger daughter was also not at home when her husband was killed.
“We are conducting raids to nab the culprits who are at large. After the postmortem examination, the body has been handed over to the family members. We hope to nab the absconding accused soon,” a police officer told The Indian Express.
The police said the victim had lodged an FIR against four men at the local police station on July 15 after they allegedly molested his two minor daughters when they were going to school on July 12. They said they arrested two of the accused in the molestation FIR on July 20.
“Special teams have been formed, and raids are being conducted to nab all the culprits named in the FIR,” Sambhal SP Kuldeep Singh Gunawat said.
