Passengers and locals near the derailed coaches of the Dibrugarh Express train after an accident, in Gonda district, Thursday. PTITwo people died and 35 got injured when eight bogies of the Dibrugarh Express derailed between Jhilahi and Motiganj railway stations in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district on Thursday.
Pankaj Singh, Chief Public Relations Officer, North Eastern Railway, said a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the accident.
A senior railway officer said they would verify the allegation that a minor explosion took place before the derailment.
The Commission of Railway Safety has also ordered an inquiry into the matter.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the district authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
In a post on X, the CM’s office said, “Taking cognizance of the train accident in Gonda district, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the district administration officials to reach the spot and expedite the relief work. The chief minister has instructed the officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital and provide them with proper treatment. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
The railways announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh to the seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 to passengers sustaining minor injuries.
