Even after the Allahabad police detained around 20 youths for interrogation,they are still in the dark over the gangrape and murder of a Dalit that took place on Monday night.
A 22-year-old girls naked body was found in a bush on Tuesday near the railway tracks,just 100 m from her residence in Gadhwa. After being gangraped,she was strangulated. We have detained over a dozen youths and have been interrogating them, said DIG Chandra Prakash.
The district police had raided several houses in the locality and detained the youths on Tuesday night.
Six of them are still in custody for further interrogation,said a police officer.
The statements of the detained youths are being verified. A team of Special Operation Group is also working on the case, said a police officer. The police have also identified a few youths who had left the area after the incident.
Asked about the number of people involved in the case,IG S K Shukla said though it was not possible to tell the exact number of men involved,but it was clear that it was not the work of a single person.
The daughter of a rickshaw-puller,the victim was working at the house of a local doctor as domestic help. She left the doctors home on Monday evening after work and was abducted on her back. Postmortem has confirmed rape and strangulation.
