The Allahabad police are preparing a sketch of a person believed to have posted a parcel bomb that exploded in a senior accountant’s house in Kydganj area of the city September 28. The 21-year-old son of the accountant and his 25-year-old daughter suffered injuries.

Police said there is a strong possibility that the sender was known to the victim and also knew how to handle circuits that could trigger explosions.

Allahabad Senior Superintendent of Police Umesh Kumar Srivastava said: “It has been confirmed that the parcel was posted from Gopiganj in Sant Ravi Das Nagar (Bhadohi) district. The explosives used were of very low intensity,generally used in crackers. Forensic reports are awaited.’’

The incident occurred Saturday noon at the Krishna Nagar (Kydganj) house of Ashok Kumar Suman,a senior accountant in Principal Accountant General’s office. Suman’s son Abhishek Kumar and daughter Jaya Shree were in the house when the blast occurred. While Suman had left for office,his wife Rekha Devi,a teacher,was in school.

Abhishek,a first-year B Tech student of United College in Naini,got a call from the local office of a courier company about a parcel.

“On opening it,he found an emergency torch. As soon as he switched it on,it exploded.”

A case of attempt to murder and relevant sections of the Explosives Act was registered.
