The district police today attached the properties of Vijay Mishra,the Samajwadi Party MLA from Bhadohi,in Allahabad on Monday. A day earlier,the police had attached his ancestral property,including a house and 60 acres in Khaptiha village.
A police contingent reached the Baghambari housing scheme today and locked Mishras house and a market complex under George Town police station. The attachment proceeding have been initiated against Mishra under the Gangster Act in connection with the murder of police constable Surya Mani Mishra and seven other cases. The constable was shot dead on May 14,2003 in Civil Lines and Mishra and his wife along with eight others were accused in the murder case, said DIG Chandra Prakash. Police said more properties of Mishra and his wife Ram Lali,who is Bhadohi zila panchayat chairman,in Delhi and other parts of the district would be attached.
Meanwhile,the MLA accused the BSP government and the district police of harassing him. I had declared all my properties in the election affidavit. I dont have any undisclosed property. There is no immediate need to attach my property. I will move court, said Mishra.
The DIG said there were 49 cases of heinous crime against Mishra and his wife,including eight cases under the Gangster Act. District Magistrate Rajeev Agrawal said the order to attach Mishras properties was given following the report of the local police,who had provided details of particular properties being bought with money earned through illegal activities.
