(Representational image/File Photo) A police constable in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district was found dead early on Wednesday morning, with a bullet wound to his head. The police identified the constable as Bhed Jeet Singh, 36, and said he was posted at the highway police outpost in Jalaun.
According to police officials, a preliminary inquiry has revealed that Singh was chasing two youths after he found their movement suspicious. Later, his body was found near a hotel, which is around 80 meters away from the highway police outpost.
Jalaun Superintendent of Police Iraj Raja said the police will only get a clear idea of what happened after the investigation. A police team is collecting footage from the CCTV installed in the area where the incident took place and four police teams have been formed to trace the assailants, Raja added.
Singh hailed from Mathura and his family lives in Chandigarh, the police said.
According to the police, on Wednesday morning, a resident informed them about the body of a constable lying on the road near the highway police outpost. A police team rushed to the spot and sent the body to the hospital where doctors declared Singh dead.
