‘Concerned about Muslim women’s issues’: Lucknow BJP leader who asked PM about UCC, triple talaq

It was on a question posed by her that Modi made a fervent plea for the Uniform Civil Code and hit out at those supporting the “triple talaq”.

On her experience about talking to the PM, Reena said, “Laga jaise moksh ki prapti ho gayi hai (Felt like I attained salvation). Modi ji is a learned and hard working person.”

“My next task is to create awareness among Muslim women about Uniform Civil Code,” she added.
Chaurasiya, who is also the president of booth nunmber 296 in the Lucknow East Assembly constituency, was given the opportunity to interact with the PM as part of the “Mera Booth Sabse Majboot” programme since she secured the first place in the country in the BJP Mahila Morcha’s campaign of “selfie with labharhi” in which she clicked selfies with over 10 lakh beneficiaries of government schemes and uploaded those on NaMo App.

She was earlier in the state executive of the party’s OBC morcha.

Reena, a former personal banker with a nationalised bank as well as a corporate employee, said she wanted to raise issues related to Muslim women since she was concerned about the problems faced by them.

After she got confirmation from Lucknow North MLA Neeraj Bora on Monday that she will be interacting with the PM, Reena said that “discussion started” on what questions she should ask.
“Later we finalised that I will ask about the UCC and triple talaq. I am bothered about both the issues because I have worked among Muslim women. One of my Muslim friends is forced by her family to wear burqa at her workplace. If there will be uniform law for everyone, nobody will be able to force anyone to wear burqa while going to office,” Reena told The Indian Express.

Though Reena formally joined the BJP in 2017, she has been a party supporter from a “very young age”. “My father Kailash Chandra Chaurasiya (80) is a swayamsevak (RSS volunteer) who worked with the Jan Sangh. My mother was a social worker and inspired me do social service. From a young age, I volunteered to distribute BJP publicity materials in my locality,” she said .
A management graduate (MBA), Reena supports father at his tea and cold drink stall in the Hazratganj market.

Though her four sisters and only brother are married, she decided to remain bachelor so that she can devote herself to social service and work in BJP. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are my inspirations. I feel I will have to give time to family after marriage and I will not be able to contribute to social service and politics,” she said.
