Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav visited Islamic seminary Nadwatul Uloom on Tuesday. Though the seminary officials termed it as a courtsey visit,Akhilesh reaffirmed his party’s commitments towards the welfare of Muslims.

During his meeting with Rabey Hasan Nadwi, the rector of the seminary and president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB),Akhilesh assured that innocent Muslims languishing in jails will be released. Wakil Nadwi,an official of Nadwatul Uloom present during the meeting, said that Akhilesh assured them that proceedings are already on for releasing the innocent Muslims. “He also assured that the government is serious about addressing the issues related to Muslims,” Wakil added.

According to a press release, the CM — during his meeting with Nadwi — admitted that the series of communal riots in the state are a black spot on his government. “Such incidents have also maligned the image of our party. We assure you that such incidents will not occur in future,” he stated.

Akhilesh recalled his father Mulayam Singh Yadav’s association with the seminary. “This place is like my home and I have great affection for it. I was thinking of coming here but unfortunately could not come. Netaji used to come here regularly and I will also do the same,” Akhilesh added.

On the demand of faculty members at Nadwatul Uloom,Akhilesh assured that rallies and protests at Jhulelal Park, which is situated opposite the seminary, will not be allowed. The faculty members had said that due to protests and rallies, students are distracted.

Akhilesh was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Ahmed Hasan and seminary officials Wakil Nadwi and Hamza Hasani during his meeting with the rector.

This is Akhilesh’s first visit to the seminary after assuming charge as Chief Minister of the state. Lately, the SP was on backfoot after Imam Bukhari severed his relationship with the party.
