This year two players of lawn tennis and two players of archery are likely to benefit more than the trainees of other sports from the Central Coaching Camps being organised by the Sports Directorate (UP) from Wednesday. These camps are being organised as a part of the admission process for the sports colleges/ sports hostels.
In both these sports only two trainees each have been able to qualify till the probables camp stage.
Though in the past if the strength for these camps after the state trials used to be so low, then the central coaching camps in those sports were not organised, but this year the central coaching camps are being organised in both these sports which means that these four players (two from each sport) will be getting special treatment by way of rigorous coaching with the coach being able to give them a good amount of time to each player.
Talking to The Indian Express,Director Sports (UP) Anil Raj Kumar informed,We have decided to organise central coaching camps in tennis and archery though there are just two trainees in each sport for the camp. This is being done for the first time as in the past if the strength for a camp used to be weak, then central coaching camps in such sports were not organised.
I felt that we should not deprive these players of the coaching opportunity which takes place in different sports as it is not their fault if more players did not qualify till this stage, Kumar said.
The lucky four who will be getting special treatment are Rohit Goswami and Abhishek Tiwari in lawn tennis and Pradyumn Kumar and Avdhesh Pratap in archery.
RSO Headquarters RK Sharma said that such a step will be very beneficial for the players as they will be able to get almost man-to-man coaching which is something very rare and they will surely benefit from it. The tennis trainees will be guided by seasoned tennis coach Anil Kumar.
Enquiry ordered
Director Sports (UP) Anil Raj Kumar informed that he has ordered an enquiry regarding the delay in announcement of the list of players selected for the central coaching camps.
While the duration of the central coaching camps is from June 15 to 29,the list was declared on Monday night and sports officials at the regional sports offices and district sports offices could be informed about the names of the players from their areas over phone from the directorate only on Tuesday, just a day ahead of the camps. The central coaching camps will be organised in seventeen sports.
