Under attack for suspending IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal who had taken on sand mafia in Gautam Budh Nagar, the state government Tuesday unveiled a hi-tech plan to tackle illegal mining in the state.

As part of the plan, the state mining department will install CCTVs to monitor mining in 13 mining-dominated districts. Field officers will be provided android-based mobile phones along with hand-held devices equipped with software to track vehicles. District magistrates have been asked to monitor surprise checks on illegal mining in their respective areas.

The proposal has been approved by UP Industrial Development Commissioner Alok Ranjan during a meeting with senior officials of the Mining Department.

A senior officer of Mining Department informed that the proposal would now be sent to the Finance Department for vetting.

“More such steps would be planned to strengthen our field officers and develop infrastructure in mining-dominated districts,” said a senior officer.

The mineral-rich districts include Jalaun,Jhansi,Hamirpur,Chitrakoot,Mahoba and Lalitpur in Bundelkhand; Sonbhadra and Mirzapur in eastern UP,and Saharanpur,Ghaziabad,Gautam Budh Nagar and Bagpat in western UP.
