Haj plan not being implemented: PWD minister writes to Centre
Alleging a 45-day delay in the implementation of the action plan for 2010 Haj pilgrimage, the Uttar Pradesh government has accused the Centre of being oblivious to the problem and demanded immediate action to expedite the process of selecting pilgrims and issuing passports.

State PWD minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui, who is also the chairman of the state Haj committee, has written to Minister of External Affairs S M Krishna in this regard. Siddiqui has said that the delay in the constitution of the Central Haj Committee has in turn delayed the selection of pilgrims through lottery and allotment of quota for each state — which should have been completed by the end of April.

“The selection of pilgrims, issue of passports, allotment of quota for each state are time-consuming processes. If immediate action is not taken by the Centre, the pilgrims will have to face several hardships and many may also be deprived of conducting their religious obligation,” Siddiqui had stated.
