2 NCB officials held taking bribe
The anti-corruption wing of the CBI,Lucknow,arrested two officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau Office Superintendent Diwakar Tripathi and Upper Divisional Clerk Rajiv Singh accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh in their office on Thursday evening. A CBI official said the duo had sought bribe for the release of one Hanif alias Kallu of Barabanki who was detained by the NCB on Wednesday. The CBI team has been conducting search at Tripathis house in Gomti Nagar.
Cop robbed in Gomti Nagar
Two motorcycle-borne youths stole Rs 50,000 from a police constable in Lucknows Gomti Nagar area on Thursday. After withdrawing Rs 50,000 from a bank,Constable Ishtiyaq Ahmad was on his way to a nearby CNG station,when two youths stole the money and fled,said Akshay Kumar,Station Officer of Gomti Nagar police station.
Woman found dead,husband held
A 23-year-old woman was found hanging at her residence in Lucknows Chinhat area on Thursday. The police arrested Kiran Yadavs husband Satish and his sister-in-law Rani on dowry charges after the victims father,lodged an FIR against them.
Meerut jailbreak Rs 15,000 award for information on 9 prisoners
The state government has announced cash rewards of Rs 15,000 each for information regarding the nine prisoners who had escaped from Meerut jail on Tuesday. The government took the decision on Wednesday night on recommendations of the police headquarters. Nine prisoners had escaped from Meerut district jail by scaling the prison wall. Later,the state government had suspended 15 jail employees.
Mayawati reviews jail security
Chief Minister Mayawati on Thursday stressed on the urgent need to fill up the vacancies of jail wardens in the state. As many as 1,413 jail wardens are to be recruited in the state. Mayawati,who reviewed the functioning of the jail department,has suggested installation of CCTV cameras,increasing the height of the main boundary walls of the jails to 22 feet and 10 per cent hike in the budget for jail inmates meal.
Khurshid assures relief for weavers
Union Minister for Minority Affairs Salman Khurshid assured weavers in Barabanki on Thursday that the Centre is considering a loan waiver scheme for them. At the convention of minorities,organised by the Congress,the weavers had sought loan waiver scheme similar to those offered to farmers.
BJP to hold Bhanda Phod rally
The BJP will organise Bhanda Phod rallies across the state between July 26 and August 9. The rallies will focus on the deteriorating law and order problem in the state,said state BJP chief Surya Pratap Shahi. The BSP government has failed to provide proper irrigation facilities and ensure water management in the flood-affected areas,he added. The campaign will begin after observing Kargil Vijay Diwas in Lucknow.
