Ex-Speaker,Reoti’s son get cabinet rank posts

Lucknow:The state government has appointed former Speaker Dhani Ram Verma as chairman of UP Agro Corporation. Ujjawal Raman Singh,former minister and son of MP Reoti Raman Singh,has been appointed as chairman of Seed Development Corporation. Both have been given cabinet minister rank. Iqram Qureshi of Moradabad has been appointed as vice-chairman of Avashyak Vastu Nigam and given state minister rank.

BSP names Rae Bareli candidate

Rae Bareli:Gearing up for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls,the BSP,which supports the UPA government at the Centre from outside,has announced its candidate for the Rae Bareli constituency which is currently represented by Congress president Sonia Gandhi.BSP’s state president Ram Achal Rajbhar and general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui announced on Wednesday that Ram Lakhan Passi as the party nominee for the constituency. A consensus was reached on Passi’s name after a meeting of party workers here on Wednesday,BSP sources said. Although elections are more than a year away,BSP has already finalised more than half the names of the candidates for the coming polls,including that for the Lucknow parliamentary segment.

Tantrik poisons youth

Lucknow:Police on Thursday arrested a tantrik for allegedly killing a 19-year-old boy after promising to cure his mother of constant headache and body pain. Police arrested the tantrik,Ramakant,a resident of Siddhnath village in Asivan police station area of Unnao district,and recovered the body of Sarvesh Kumar Chaurasiya,a resident of Ekta Nagar,from near Ganga in Safipur police station area. Police acted on a complaint lodged by Sarvesh’s father, Ramsevak Chaurasiya,a paan vendor,when Sarvesh did no return home on Tuesday. The tantrik had given laddoos laced with sulphas to Sarvesh and later strangulated him,said police. After killing him,Ramakant took away Sarvesh’s scooty,leaving his body in a jungle near Babubangala village. He had also taken Rs 2,400 from the deceased,who had known him for the last five months.
