In the Ghosi bypoll, SP candidate Sudhakar Singh retained the seat for his party by defeating the BJP nominee Dara Singh Chauhan by a margin of 42,759 votes. The results were announced on Friday.
Sources said the BJP committee would speak to leaders of different castes and communities – such as upper castes and Dalits – to find out why the SP got more votes than the BJP despite a rigorous campaign by the ruling party and its ministers.
The BJP’s state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary confirmed to The Indian Express on Sunday that a committee of party leaders would soon visit Ghosi.
When asked whether the party was aware about discontent among local party workers and the public in Ghosi regarding the BJP candidate Dara Singh Chauhan, Chaudhary said, “All the things will not become clear until we go to ground zero.”
