In a bid to change the partys anti-Muslim image,BJP national president Nitin Gadkari on Thursday reminded people about the NDA-led governments role in elevating nuclear scientist APJ Abdul Kalam as the President of India. Addressing a public meeting in Muslim-dominated Saharanpur district on Thursday,Gadkari said the BJP was never against minorities. The public meeting was organised in Behat Assembly constituency from where the party launched its statewide BJP Lao,Pradesh Bachao campaign. During the campaign,party will organise public meetings in every Assembly constituency and appeal people to vote BJP to power in the state. Gadkari said the BJP wanted justice for every section of the society. If you keep giving votes on the basis of castes,you will remain a poor citizen in a rich state like UP, Gadkari said. Gadkari promised jobs for youths,good governance and development in UP if BJP is voted to power in the state. He announced that party campaign will continue till the Assembly polls. Earlier,the party had planned to conclude it on December 15. Senior party leader and campaign convener Uma Bharti said party leaders will visit every village during the campaign. She appealed the people to take the pledge BJP sarkar aye,BSP jaaye. She also told them to keep distance from Samajwadi Party. Commenting on the absence of party national leaders at the launch of the campaign,party spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Patak said they would join the campaign in the coming days. Around a dozen national BJP leaders belonging to UP had recently participated in the partys recently concluded Jan Swabhiman Yatra. Party state president Surya Pratap Shahi said the BJP lao-Pradesh Bachao campaign will save UP from SP,BSP and Congress.
