Barabanki bus mishap: 3 schoolkids among 4 killed

The bus was carrying students from Suratganj Composite School, who travelled to Lucknow for an educational visit to the Lucknow zoo.

THREE SCHOOLCHILDREN and a bus conductor were killed and 15 persons injured after the bus they were traveling in overturned in Barabanki on Tuesday, police said.

The bus was carrying students from Suratganj Composite School, who travelled to Lucknow for an educational visit to the Lucknow zoo.

The police identified the deceased as Shubhi (14), Mansi (13), and Kamini (14). All three were students of Class 8, while the fourth victim was identified as Sufiyan Ansari (28), the bus conductor.

Barabanki Circle Officer (City) Jagatran Kanojia said, “Two other children were seriously injured and have been shifted to Lucknow’s King George’s Medical University for treatment.”

A total of 42 children, of classes 7 and 8, four teachers, a bus driver and a conductor were on the bus.

An officer said the accident happened around 6 pm on Tuesday after the bus encountered a high-speed motorcycle near Salarpur area. “The driver tried to avoid a collision and the bus overturned. Emergency services were pressed into action with senior officials and personnel from the administration and Basic Education Department soon reached the site to coordinate the rescue operation,” said the officer.

Some of the injured children underwent treatment at the Community Health Centre in Dewa, while some were shifted to the Barabanki district hospital.
