THE AURAIYA police on Friday arrested three persons —the grandfather, father and uncle of a teenage girl — for allegedly sexually assaulting her, leading to her pregnancy. According to the police, the victim, accompanied by a woman relative, visited the jurisdictional station on Thursday and filed a complaint, alleging that the three accused - her grandfather, father and uncle - had been sexually assaulting her over the past few months, resulting in a pregnancy. Additional Superintendent of Police, Auraiya, Alok Mishra, said the girl told police that she is around two months' pregnant and her medical examination is underway. A case was registered under relevant sections, including those pertaining to rape, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was also invoked against the three accused, Mishra said. The complainant also claimed to the police that due to “frequent harassment” by her family members, she and her mother had left the house a few months ago. They moved to another state and had been residing there, she told the police. However, some time ago, the victim’s father and uncle travelled there and brought them both back with them. The girl's mother died a few days after returning to their village, police sources said, adding that the circumstances of the death would be looked into. Since then, the three accused started sexually harassing the girl. Recently, she confided in another relative about her ordeal, following which a complaint was filed, the sources said.
