The state Chief Electoral Office has decided to ensure the names of all eligible youths are included in the electoral roll when they apply for admission in a college or a university. The CEO,with the help of district election officers,will make Form 6,which is necessary for enrolment as a voter,available at all state as well Central universities,degree colleges,engineering and management colleges in the state from the new academic session. This will ensure the students fill up Form 6 at the time of completing documentation process for admission in a university or a college. Umesh Sinha,CEO (UP),said: Educational institutions will become virtual voter assistance centres,facilitating the inclusion of students names in electoral rolls. The students can fill up the from and leave it in a drop box. Those found eligible will be issued election photo identity cards, Sinha said. If the student has not attained the age of 18 at the time of admission,he can apply later whenever he attains this age during the course, said a CEO official. The CEO has also decided to target those school students who have attained the age of 18. Often many of them turn 18 when they fill up their examination forms of Class XII. Therefore,schools will also be provided with Form 6,Sinha said.
