The Co-operative cell of UP Police today procured arrest warrant against BSP MLA Umashanker Singh and 12 others,including a former ministers son,in a case of alleged withdrawal of Rs 53 lakh fraudulently from a cooperative bank in Ballia district.
Co-operative cell DG Suvrat Tripathi said that a case of forgery was registered at the City Kotwali police station of Ballia on February 11,2010 by the then senior manager of Sikanderpur branch of district cooperative bank,Ramashanker.
The complaint was lodged against the proprietor of Dev construction agency,Dev Nandan Rajbhar,his partner,Ajay,former manager of same branch of the bank,Ram Deo Ram,and some engineers of Rural Engineering Services (RES) and PWD,confirmed Tripathi.
He said the named persons were held accused for allegedly withdrawing Rs 53 lakh from Rajbhars bank account,which was already closed in 2002. The cheques were issued by RES and PWD engineers against the work of construction of road by Rajbhars firm,the DG added.
He also said the BSP MLAs name came to light during investigation. He had been partner of Rajbhar in the construction work.
The arrest warrants,procured from a Varanasi court which attends the cases of cooperative cell related to the zone,will be handed over to Ballia City Kotwali police station,he confirmed.
When inquired,Ballia SP Onkar Singh said they were yet to receive the warrants.
