Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh on Saturday asked the Election Commission to remove nine officers in the state in the interest of free and fair elections, alleging they were doing more of BSP work than government work these days.
He said a study of the call details of the telephones installed on the fifth floor of the Secretariat Annexe building, which houses the offices of these officers and also the Chief Ministers Office, will prove his point.
The officers he named were Chief Secretary Atul Gupta,Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh,Principal Secretaries to CM V S Pandey,Kunwar Fateh Bahadur,J N Chamber,Netram; Secretary to CM Navneet Sehgal,DGP Vikram Singh and Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal.
Singh said that for the first time,an IAS officer,Navneet Sehgal, was attached with the CMs security just to serve the political interests.
He also accused the state government of not providing him proper security in the state. Union Home Minister P Chidambaram had written a letter to him regarding the threat to him during the elections.
The Centre has given him Z-plus security, but the UP government had given him security under Y category and even this was withdrawn two days back,he added.
He said Rampur SP had asked him to avoid visiting Rampur on April 20 at the time of filing of papers by SP candidate Jaya Prada because of threat to his life.
Singh also backed RJD chief Lalu Prasads statement in which he blamed the Congress for the demolition of the Babri Masjid. He also alleged a tacit understanding between the BSP and the Congress.
EC team visits Sonekars death spot
Allahabad: A two-member team deputed by the Election Commission team today visited Jaunpur and the spot where Indian Justice Party candidate Bahadur Lal Sonekars body was found hanging from a tree last Monday.
The team also met Sonekars family. The team comprised NK Sinha and Manoj Jhalani, both IAS officers. Both officers assured that justice would be done, said Suresh,Sonekars brother. The team recorded the statement of Sonekars widow Sharda Devi. The family members told them Sonekar was murdered at the behest of BSP candidate Dhananjay Singh.
They also alleged involvement of circle officer (city) DN Chaudhery and two sub-inspectors,who had threatened Sonekar when he refused to withdraw his candidature. Suresh alleged that district magistrate Aparna U and SP VK Dohare did not allow the family members to have a look at the body before the postmortem and the police assaulted them when they tried to stop the cops from taking away the body. The family also mentioned the name of Raj Kumar Sonekar and Subash Singh, aides of Dhananjay Singh,as accomplices,Suresh said. The team members also met other candidates and sought reports about the incident from the district magistrate and the SP.
