Allahabad HC dismisses Maneka’s plea against election of Sultanpur MP

The petitioner had sought to have Rambhual Nishad's election declared void, alleging that he failed to disclose four pending criminal cases against him and submitted a false affidavit.

The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday dismissed an election petition filed by senior BJP leader and former MP Maneka Gandhi, challenging the election of Rambhual Nishad, who won the recent Lok Sabha election from the Sultanpur constituency on a Samajwadi Party ticket. The petition was dismissed under Section 81, read with Section 86 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

The petitioner had sought to have Rambhual Nishad’s election declared void, alleging that he failed to disclose four pending criminal cases against him and submitted a false affidavit.

Rambhual Nishad was elected on June 4, 2024, and the election results were declared on June 6, 2024. The petition was filed on July 27.

Justice Rajan Roy, who heard the petition, had on August 5 reserved judgment.
