Parts of Aligarh on Friday continued to remain tense even three days after a man from the minority community was lynched by a mob. One Mohammed Farid alias Aurangzeb, 35, died after he was beaten with iron rods and dragged through the streets of the Mamu Bhanja locality on Tuesday night by a mob over suspicion of theft in a house owned by cloth trader Mukesh Chand Mittal. The Aligarh police have so far arrested six of the seven persons named in the FIR at the Gandhi Bagh police station. Heavy police force has also been deployed in parts of Aligarh town as a precautionary measure. “There is no place for mob lynching in a civilized society like ours. It is the responsibility of the ruling party to check such incidents…” said Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (M) President Maulana Mehmood Asad Madni in Saharanpur on Friday. He also blamed the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh for Aurangzeb’s death. Meanwhile, Aurangzeb’s mother Zubaida along with leaders of the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, and the Congress met Aligarh District Magistrate Vishak G Iyer Friday afternoon and demanded that the National Security Act (NSA) be invoked against the culprits. The Aligarh DM assured the family of the deceased that those responsible for the murder would be dealt with strongly. “None of those involved in the incident will be spared,” said DM Iyer. Former Congress MP Chaudhary Brijendra Singh and Samajwadi Party leader Ajju Ishaq, who were part of the delegation that met the DM, demanded compensation of Rs 1 crore for the family of the deceased and also a government job for the brother of Aurangzeb. “He was the sole breadwinner of the family but was killed in an unfortunate turn of events Tuesday night. We not only demand adequate compensation for the family, a government job but also strict action against those responsible for the gruesome killing,” said Singh.
