Akhilesh same as Mulayam, has anti-Dalit bias: Maya

Two months after Akhilesh Yadav wrested power in Uttar Pradesh,BSP chief Mayawati said today that his government was no better than that of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Two months after Akhilesh Yadav wrested power in Uttar Pradesh,BSP chief Mayawati said today that his government was no better than that of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Addressing a press conference here, she said: “Be it Mulayam Singh or his son, there is no difference. Both have similar thoughts. I do not see any difference between the two.”

Criticising the SP government for scrapping 26 schemes started by her,she said this reflected its “anti-Dalit” bias. “While the developmental works have come to a halt, the law and order situation has deteriorated so much that ordinary people fear for their lives,” she said. “The SP’s party flag on vehicles has become a licence to commit all kinds of wrongful acts,” she added.

Mayawati alleged that the SP government was trying to deflect public attention by trying to initiate inquiries into all the works carried out by her government. “My party has always fought against corruption. I have no objections to inquiries if they are carried out without any casteist and political bias,” she asserted.

She also alleged that the SP government was harassing BSP workers.

Asked whether the BSP would support former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma’s candidature, she replied: “I am hearing about P A Sangma through the newspapers, but there is no clarity. So what can I say.”

“Our party is keeping an eye on all the parties… We first want to see who the UPA and NDA will field. We will support a candidate who is suitable to us in the line of our party’s movement.”

On a non-UPA,non-NDA front of regional parties, she said: “Our party has not thought about it,we are not going to fall into traps.”

While she parried questions on supporting Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature, she indicated that the BSP would continue to support the UPA to keep away communal forces.

LUCKNOW: Reacting to Mayawati’s charges,Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav advised her to remember the “misdeeds committed during her regime”. “Before commenting on our government she should always remember the situation in her own regime,” said Akhilesh on Saturday.

Earlier,SP national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav, too, lashed out at Mayawati. “She should remember that whose ministers are lodged in jail? Whose leaders were indicted by Lokayukta for their involvement in corruption? She should not pass judgement on our government as people understand and know everything,” he said.

SP spokesperson Rajendra Choudhary said her outburst is on expected lines as the heat of CBI inquiry in corruption cases is likely to engulf her soon.
