After approving a modern animal slaughterhouse for Meerut, the state government has now decided to set up similar slaughterhouse-cum meat processing plants on public-private partnership (PPP) model in seven other cities Bareilly,Saharanpur,Aligarh,Moradabad,Kanpur,Jhansi and Lucknow. We are going to invite Request for Qualification for this project in June. Soon after that, the bidding process will begin, said Alok Ranjan,Principal Secretary (Urban Development). As compared to the exiting ones, these modern slaughterhouses will have an advanced Effluent Treatment Plant and render plants for recycling of dead animal and slaughterhouse waste, he added. A slaughterhouse is an industry facility where animals are processed for consumption as food products. According to the PPP model, private firms will develop and operate the slaughterhouse for a certain period. Following this, the set-up will be handed over to the local municipal body. The state government will select the location for the slaughterhouse, provide land and facilitate site development. It will also provide the guidelines for establishing the plant, which will be environment-friendly. The slaughterhouses will definitely boost meat export business and create new job opportunities in these cities by complementing the local packaging industry, said an official. The selection of the firm will based on marks that the bidders will score during evaluation of their technical and financial bids, he added. These plants will also be established using the latest technology to ensure that there is less pollution.
