A man with several criminal cases against him was shot dead on the court premises when he had gone to attend the hearing in a case in Khurja area of Bulandshahr district on Thursday. The killers walked out of the court and later escaped on a motorcycle.

The deceased was identified as Ravindra alias Bhura.

Bulandshahr SP (City) J K Shahi said that a gangster,Ravinder Gorki, has been named in the case for orchestrating the shootout. Gorki’s daughter had eloped with Bhura four years ago and a case of abduction had been registered against him then.

Bhura,a native of the Khurja Dehat area, had several criminal cases registered against him at the local police station,he said. Shahi said that Bhura had married the girl and was staying in another district since then.

He had returned along with his wife two months ago and was arrested in the case of abduction. He was, however, released on bail a month and and a half ago,he said.

The SP (City) added that Bhura had come to attend the hearing in the case of abduction at the ACJM court on Thursday. He walked out of the courtroom after the hearing and was heading outside when two youths suddenly fired at him from point blank range around 12 noon.

While Bhura died on the spot, the assailants made their escape. The prime accused is yet to be traced.

A head constable and two constables deputed on security duty on the court premises have been suspended for dereliction in duty,Shahi added.
