After all the protests following the death of a university student, the Aligarh Muslim University will finally reopen on December 1.

After all the protests following the death of a university student, the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will finally reopen on December 1. On Saturday,Vice-Chancellor Professor P K Abdul Azis met Union Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal and informed him that the situation on the campus was normal and the university was in a position to reopen. “The university will reopen on December 1. The announcement will be made on Monday,” said Azis.

The university was closed for an indefinite period on October 30 following protests staged by the students over the killing of Sahanawaz Alam,a BSc III year student of the university.

University spokesperson Rahat Abrar said: “To minimise the loss of working days, the university has decided to hold winter vacations from November 15 to November 30.” The vacations are normally scheduled for December 20.

Abrar added: “A committee of Deans constituted by the V-C has observed that students’ union shall be restored as per the Lyngdoh Committee guidelines.”
