Five persons were killed and 18 others were injured after an Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus overturned and fell into a 40-foot-deep ditch in Lucknow district’s Kakori area on Thursday evening.
The accident took place when the driver bus, which was coming from Hardoi district, tried to avoid hitting some motorcycles parked on the roadside near Kakori’s Tikatganj locality, police said.
Four of the deceased were identified as Baby Ram, a resident of Pilibhit, Nardev of Mathura, Sanjeev of Badaun and Dilshad of Lucknow. The identity of the fifth deceased is yet to be ascertained.
After receiving information about the accident, a police team rushed to the spot and, with the help of locals, rescued the passengers trapped inside the vehicle.
The injured were taken to the hospital where five of them were declared dead. The condition of those undergoing treatment, including a 40-year-old woman and bus driver Anil Kumar, 45, was stated to be stable.
Children were also among the passengers, officials said.
Lucknow Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vishwajeet Srivastava said, “Preliminary inquiry suggests that the driver lost control over the vehicle while trying to avoid motorcycles parked on the road.”
The families of the deceased have been informed about the accident. Officials said they were trying to establish the identity of the fifth deceased.
3 of family killed as car, bike collide
A woman, her son and grandson were killed on Thursday after a car collided with their motorcycle here, police said. The deceased were identified as Sushila (55), Praveen (35) and his son Yash (9) of Takeli in Shahjahanpur. The accident occurred near Virsinghpur village when the three were on way to Guladia village in Deoria Kala, police said. —PTI input
