2014: BJP plans insurance cover for active members

Party needs more workers,money for functions ahead of LS polls

BJP plans to provide life insurance cover to its active party workers in the state through a group insurance programme,for which the party is in talks with a government-run insurance firm.

In case of the death of an insured party worker at a party programme or agitation,Rs 1 lakh will be provided to his nominee by the insurance company. Due compensation will also be provided in case of an injury during party programmes.

Life insurance cover will be provided to nearly 72,000 active workers in the state.

“The amount required for insurance for the current year has been arranged. For those who will get membership next year,the party will charge an additional Rs 100 for a three-year period,” said Laxmikant Bajpai,BJP state president.

A person has to pay Rs 200 to be an active member in the party,of which Rs 100 will be the subscription fees for mouthpiece ‘Kamal Jyoti’,while another Rs 100 will be the membership fee that an active member collects by facilitating membership of 20 other workers. The membership fee of an ordinary worker is Rs 5.

The party plans to conduct rallies in the state prior to the Lok Sabha elections,for which it will need the support of workers.

Another party leader said the move will attract more people to be active members of the party and this in turn Party will bring more money to the party fund.

The party has also earmarked Rs 51 crore in the state to be collected as membership fees and donation by September-end for creating a corpus fund. The interest generated from the fund will be used in financing party activities.

Another leader said: “On several occasions,we have found that workers work for party’s campaign and when they meet with an accident,their families have to suffer. Life insurance cover will help such workers.”
