2 yrs after, Etawah woman gets life term for killing daughter

“The court found the case of honour killing and sentenced the woman to life imprisonment,” said government counsel Sanjeev Chaturvedi.

“In all, 12 prosecution witnesses were examined during the trial and most of them, including the girl’s family members, had turned hostile,” the government counsel said.

According to the prosecution, the case dates back to August 28, 2021, when a labourer, got an FIR registered against his neighbour for killing and hanging her daughter’s body from a hook at his residence at a village in Etawah.

The man stated that he had gone out for some work, while his wife and their younger daughter had gone to market to purchase medicines, leaving the elder daughter alone in the house. He alleged that when they returned home, they found her elder daughter (17) hanging in the room. He also claimed that his neighbour had thrashed his daughter over a trivial issue a few days ago.

On the basis of his complaint, police lodged a murder FIR against his neighbour and his unidentified associates.

The postmortem report stated that death occurred due to strangulation. During the investigation, police found that the neighbour and the 17-year-old were in a relationship and her family was against it.

“Police gave a clean chit to the neighbour after they failed to collect any evidence against him. The police, later, booked the girl’s mother in the case. She was accused of killing her daughter and arrested,” said the government counsel.

Police found that the woman killed her daughter after she refused to snap ties with the neighbour. In its chargesheet, police said after killing her daughter, the woman hanged the body and then left the house.

The woman has been in jail since her arrest two years ago.
